These include recombinant DNA, vaccines, enzyme catalysis, biochips, bioinformatics, bioelectronic monitoring, radioisotope detection, bioremediation, natural products, steroids, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, medical devices, agricultural products, alloys, and internet systems. Mr. Gollin builds and manages worldwide intellectual property portfolios for clients, expeditiously resolves disputes, conducts due diligence and intellectual property audits, and negotiates licenses and other agreements. Mr. Gollin helps his clients use legal tools and strategies to accelerate the value of their technologies. Significant Matters Mr. Gollin oversees the intellectual property portfolios for a pharmaceutical company, a medical device company, and a biotechnology instrumentation company, involving several hundred patents and trademarks worldwide. He succeeded in dismissing a patent suit against a client and in revoking a competitor’s European patent of a competitor. He also prevailed in a trademark lawsuit and oppositions. He provided dozens of formal opinions regarding patent infringement and validity, and conducted the first intellectual property audits of five International Agricultural Research Centers on five continents. In addition, Mr. Gollin negotiated many complex technology transfer agreements, including patent licenses, a bioinformatics subscription by Novartis, a biochip license from Affymetrix, a domain name purchase, and biodiversity access for biotechnology research based on plants obtained from Panama, Fiji, and Central Africa. Activities Mr. Gollin is an adjunct professor at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business where he teaches Strategic Management of Intellectual Property. Mr. Gollin has taught biotechnology law to professionals in East Africa and the U.S. He has served on the boards of technology and environmental organizations, such as the Rene Dubos Center for Human Environments, Inc. Mr. Gollin is launching Public Interest Intellectual Property Advocates, a pro bono referral service for developing country clients, with Venable support. Publications/Speeches Mr. Gollin is a prolific writer and lecturer. He co-authored the books Innovations in Ground Water and Soil Cleanup: From Concept to Commercialization (1997) and Biodiversity Prospecting (1993). He has published and presented over 40 papers around the world and has been interviewed on National Public Radio and by several newspapers.
